With that being said, you better believe that women are particularly picky about their glasses. First they have to juggle with the decision between glasses and contacts, which is a fierce battle I assure you. She has to ask herself if she can pull off the glasses look or if her prefers the more open face look of contacts; personally I wear both, it just depends on the day, my mood, and whether or not I woke up on time! Next up on her agenda is finding a pair of eyeglasses that she likes, this is a guaranteed time consumer. She will be pulling all kinds of frames off of the wall of the shop trying to find that perfect look. When she’s doing this she also has an objective in mind, she has an image of someone in her head and she’s trying to find that look. That someone in her head could be a celebrity, a model, or maybe one of her friends that looks great in glasses. Eventually she’ll find that exact pair of glasses she was searching for, but the odds are that she’ll hate them, so the hunt will continue until she finds something that is just right.

Why do we women put ourselves through so much trouble for a pair of glasses? I’ll let you in on a little secret, women glasses are more than just glasses, they are a relationship. A woman forms a bond with her glasses that will last for a long time, so those glasses need to be perfect, no matter how long it takes to find them.

Of course, if you paid attention in the first half of this story, you can count on a woman’s eyeglasses selection to differ at times. The main change in every girl’s wardrobe comes in the summer. In the summer time we’re all ready for fun and we want our outfits to reflect that, even our glasses! Summer eyeglasses need to reflect a flirtatious and fun feeling, and of course make us look great at the same time.             First off, there are a few different types of guys, so I won’t generalize too much, but there are a few similar attitudes when it comes to how guys dress. The most prevailing idea that I’ve seen is trying to dress to impress. That’s right ladies, guys have got you on the brain and they are trying to show you they care through their clothing choices. If a guy likes a girl and she complimented an outfit he wore, you can be certain he’ll remember that exact outfit and wear it again. If a girl says she likes a certain color, guess who shows up wearing that color the next time they hang out?

            Of course, there’s a very different mindset at play as well, and that’s when a guy couldn’t care less about what he’s wearing. This can happen for a few different reasons: just feel like playing video games, having a bad day, don’t care how people think, woke up late, etc. This doesn’t really have to do with the guy’s personality though, so don’t worry!

Through the looking glass

          We had to cover the very basic of guy-ology before we could move on to a more complicated subject, how do guys choose their eyeglasses? Well, I can tell you one thing, they’re just as picky about glasses as women are because they have to wear them on their faces just like we do! So yes, they go through the same process to find the best eyeglasses, but they do it a little differently than girls do.

            Girls will bring a group of trusted people along to help her pick a pair of eyeglasses that suit her; they are expected to give their honest opinions until the perfect pair is found. Men’s eyeglasses are a little different though. Men may bring along one person, but that person won’t know they are going to look at glasses, they are there for something completely different. A guy will be hanging out with his friend and ask if they wouldn’t mind taking a side trip to the optical department of their choice. Even when that guy friend is there, there’s no real guarantee they will give a helpful opinion. If a guy can’t trick his friend into coming along, then he’ll have no real problem going alone.

            Another guy method that has been seen is when a guy uses a girl’s opinion to get the right pair. This could be done by bringing along their current girlfriend or they could simply ask the cute girl in the store what they think. This method relates directly back to the “dress to impress” method that we covered earlier. This way the guys are getting their advice directly from the source!

My Prerogative

            Guys also buy glasses to fit a certain looks, frames for men just have different motive behind them. The main reason relates right back to our center theme here, dress to impress. Guys are hoping to find a pair of glasses that will make them look hot and intelligent. When this combination is met, no lady will be able to resist the Casanova they’ve transformed into. Well, that’s what is going through their minds at least.

Operation Eyesight was founded in 1963 by Arthur Jenkyns. The goal of the program was to fight against the leading causes of blindness in poor areas where people were less likely to be able to afford treatment. Today Operation Eyesight can be found is Ghana, Zambia, India, and Kenya, as well as other mobile locations. This program specializes in a few ways to prevent blindness but they are most known for their cataracts surgeries. They place a lot of importance on their high quality procedures because in some areas the leading cause of blindness is cataracts while the second leading cause of blindness is issues with cataract surgery. Another leading cause of blindness is trachoma which is a bacterial infection in the eye.

One success story from Operation Eyesight is with a young boy from Kenya. The boy’s name was Ian and he was four years old when an accident in a football game with his brother caused an infection in his eye. His partners took him into an Operation Eyesight hospital in hopes of restoring his vision. With the proper care from the program, Ian’s eyesight was fully restored within just a few days! About 40% of the patience who enter these hospitals can’t afford the charges but desperately want to be able to see again. Operation Eyesight has been providing affordable and free operations to those who need them for many years now and need our help.

Sightsavers is an international nonprofit organization that was founded on January 5, 1950 in Britain under the name of the British Empire Society for the Blind by Sir John Wilson. A few years after it opened its doors a survey of West Africa showed that the majority of causes for blindness in those areas was preventable but that the citizens of those areas had no way to care for their eyes properly. A few years later Sightsavers sent out its first mobile eye units which was comprised of trained staff traveling on land rovers in Uganda and Kenya. You can imagine how much of a pain that was! After realizing this method was a little bit inefficient, Sightsavers began training local staff how to care for eyes.

Over time Sightsavers has grown more and more advanced and now works with partners in over 30 countries, in areas such as Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. How they help is by providing help to prevent treatable eye problems by providing things such as cataracts surgeries to prevent blindness. Since 2011 they have performed more than 251 thousand cataract operations and have given more than 31 million treatments. Just try to imagine the look on all of those millions of people’s faces when they were finally able to see again!
